Knowledge Points – Affordable Tutoring. Proven Results.

KnowledgePoints is a traditional tutoring center that excels in remediation, enrichment, and test preparation. With a goal to provide a tutoring environment for students that focuses on filling in learning gaps and building a strong foundation to grow from, KnowledgePoints provides tutoring services that help children find confidence in themselves and in their abilities as students.

KnowledgePoints caters to public, private and home school students who are in need of tutoring after school, on weekends and over the summer. Rocky and Monica Contreras opened their first KnowledgePoints tutoring center in Land O’Lakes eight years ago and have recently opened a new tutoring center location in Trinity.

“My wife and I started this business because we saw a need within the community for tutoring and academic support,” says Rocky. “Monica’s entire career has been in teaching and my background is in business and training, which made KnowledgePoints a good choice for us. I had no idea how rewarding this business would be. We’re helping build confidence at the same time we’re building their academic skills, and it’s such a rewarding experience to be a part of helping students achieve success. When you see a young child with no confidence come in hanging their head, and you watch the process of their learning experience turn into a boost in their self-confidence – it’s a fantastic feeling. We get to see that sort of thing every day.”

KnowledgePoints offers affordable tutoring services customized to meet each child’s needs. Rocky explains, “I find that many parents assume that all tutoring is the same. In reality, there are different approaches to tutoring. One thing that sets us apart is that we are flexible enough to utilize the approach that makes the most sense for each child. A lot of tutoring is ‘homework help,’ which is more of a focus on what that child may be struggling with today in a specific subject.” That approach to tutoring can be helpful, but the benefits are often short-lived. “We all tend to learn by continually building on our existing skills. So when we see a child struggling in a subject such as math or reading, it’s usually due to some missing fundamentals.”

Many families see better long-term results from using a diagnostic approach to tutoring. At KnowledgePoints, students typically start with an assessment (math or reading or writing) before they begin a tutoring program. When they receive the testing results and see how their child’s score compares to students at the same grade level across the country, parents are then able to decide what direction they want to go with their child. “If they decide to enroll, we use the assessment results to customize a plan tailored to that child’s needs,” says Rocky. “We’ll start with the most basic areas they haven’t mastered and work our way forward from there.”

KnowledgePoints offers tutoring for reading, math and writing in addition to a Study Skills program, SAT and ACT Test Prep programs, and a Homework Edge program that utilizes that ‘homework help’ approach to support kids in specific classes they may be struggling with. All tutoring at KnowledgePoints is individualized, and each student is paired with an experienced tutor that will help them develop a love for learning. “All of our tutors are professionals,” says Rocky, “we don’t use high school or college students.”

Perhaps the best news for many parents – your kids will enjoy it! “All we need is one day with your child to get them excited about coming back to KnowledgePoints,” says Rocky. “We have a motivation system that rewards students for giving their best effort. They earn ‘Success Points’ that they can spend on games, toys and gift certificates.” All the tutors at KnowledgePoints work hard to connect with kids and make learning fun. “When a child struggles with a subject long enough, they begin to associate it with frustration or even failure. Our tutors help them build their confidence and develop tools for success that they can use in every aspect of their lives.”

Students and Parents Love KnowledgePoints!

Past student Hannah says, “My experience with KnowledgePoints was nothing but amazing. I first visited for Algebra II tutoring and later on I began taking their ACT prep classes. My math tutor was very sweet and my grade improved greatly from the tutoring. My ACT prep classes were extremely helpful and proved very much worth it when I scored higher than I thought I would on the ACT. All of the tutors there are kind, considerate, and help students in every way they can. I always recommend KnowledgePoints to my friends and to anyone who needs their outstanding tutoring. With my high ACT score I can now apply to many colleges and have the ability to choose where I want to go, all thanks to their amazing services.”

Parents also have great things to say about KnowledgePoints. Jenny shares, “KnowledgePoints Tutoring is more than just tutoring. It gives a child a few hours a week to ask for help in a comfortable environment. My high school son has gained confidence since coming here and increased his last quarter grade by two letters! I would highly recommend KnowledgePoints to parents of any age [child].” Another parent, Leslie, says, “My son was reading at below level when he entered 1st grade. I tried to help him at home, which demonstrated little improvement and our son was quickly becoming frustrated. My husband and I decided to try KnowledgePoints Tutoring. We saw positive results almost immediately. Within two months there was a huge improvement in our son’s reading skills. By the second semester of school he was reading on [grade] level. He is now in the 3rd grade and is reading at a 4th grader’s level.”

KnowledgePoints provides improved confidence and skills, and tangible results, while helping students find the motivation and confidence to succeed on their own. One of the most important gifts we can give our children is the gift of self-empowerment and knowledge.

KnowledgePoints offers enrollment all year long and has a great summer program so students don’t experience the dreaded “summer slide.” Rocky says, “We have some families that come every summer because they don’t want their children to lose what they’ve worked so hard to gain all year. We help keep them sharp over the summer, so when the fall comes around they are ready to go!”
